Writing to you, even knowing there won’t be a reply

Author

Writing to you, even knowing there won’t be a reply, brings me some comfort. It makes the distance between us feel a little smaller, even though there are oceans separating us. I don’t know how to stop sharing my day with you, how to resist the urge to check in. I still smell your clothes, as if you’d just taken them off, and cling to that scent, knowing it will fade away, just like your love for me has. I can feel that loss deep in my soul, and it’s devastating. The emptiness seeps into every part of my life like a poison for which I have no cure.
This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, trying to love you from a distance. I’m doing my best, even though I know I’m not good at it. I understand that you don’t want me, and I know this is easier for you. It brings me some comfort, at least, knowing that you’re happier without me. I just wish we had met at a different time, when I was more put together.
I have a full-time job now and even an interview for a remote position. If I get it, I’ll be moving upstate to the mountains because I can’t stay here any longer. This place feels like a graveyard, haunted by memories, and your ghost still haunts me every night. I’m willing to feel this way if it means you can live the life you want. I would drown every day if it would help you float.
You’re my favorite person, and you changed my life. God, I love you so much that I’m going to try to let you go.

It's okay to grieve and miss someone, even if they're not in your life anymore. Your feelings are valid, and it's important to honor them. Take your time, and don't rush the healing process.
