so me (24) and my gf (23) hit our 3rd anniversary today. we were vibing having fun drinking a lil and outta nowhere she asks if i'd marry her right here right now. i was lowkey stunned stayed quiet for like 5 seconds then said i wanna marry her for sure in the future but if she asked me now i'd say no. she looked super shocked like disappointed and i tried explaining but she just heard no and thinks that’s a dealbreaker and says no means no no matter the reasons. the vibe of the day was completely ruined and now we’re in this awkward spot where she thinks i'm not in love cause i said no.
so like do you think it makes sense that she’s questioning the future just cause i said not right now?
is it okay to say no not right now if i love her with all my heart?
does true love mean i should’ve said yes?
it was just a hypothetical question from her but my answer hit her like a ton of bricks. i’ve apologized a ton and tried to explain it was just cause of personal stuff but she’s not really vibing with my i would marry you but just not now answer and now she’s in doubt.
not getting into the details but just curious how you’d see this situation in general.
