Tempted to break no contact, only to let him know I will block him on social media :( don't know if this is a good idea. The goal is moving on and avoiding that one day he decides to reach back to me (he's currently a ghoster)

like you want control over who reaches out first. blocking without warning does that. sending the warning keeps him in the picture a little longer.
i get why you want to say it. i once told my ex i was blocking him because i couldn’t handle him popping up. it gave me some peace, even if it was small.
i used to type out messages like that and stare at the screen. never sent them, just sat there pissed off that i even cared. once i did send one, he never replied. felt even dumber.

Why would you need to let him know that you're blocking him? Just do it. I'm sure he'll figure it out on his own. It sounds like maybe you are looking for an excuse to contact him? Stay strong. You got this. If you contact him now, it will just make you feel bad and then you are starting the whole process over again.
