On Monday, he wrote a long message about how I deserve better and that I should leave him. He said he wants to be worthy of me and that he need to work on himself. He also said , “You don’t need to respond to this.” So, I didn’t respond.
But then at 3 a.m. today, he called me. I didn’t pick up at first, but then I thought maybe something had happened. When I answered, he just said, “Sorry I woke you up.” What does all of this even mean? And did I break NC now:(?

do you think part of you still hopes he’ll come back once he’s “worked on himself”? sometimes that hope makes it harder to tell what we actually want too.
nah, you didn’t break no contact by answering one call. you were just being human. it’s okay. i think he’s torn — wants space but also wants reassurance. just don’t chase the “meaning” in his mixed signals. actions over words.
