so I and my ex are exes that don't know how to be exes.
we show each other affection, which makes me feel like we might get back. then there are days when he'll just pull back n act like I'm he's bro but because I love him I feel like he's just scared to show tht he loves me again

To me, I don't consider that is right to be friends with ex's because the story between you will always be present.
In my opinion, you should distance yourself as well.
There's a reason you're ex's.
I suggest the following:
> Talk about it with him. Why ruminate? Ask him directly.
- If the answer is that the thing between you can't work (or something like that), then you have to distance yourself as much as possible or block him.
You still have feelings for him, please don't play woth your emotions.
