Should i text him on his birthday? Missing him

So it's his birthday today!! Now he hates his birthdays, something awful happened when he was young on his birthday. So he really hates the attention and fuss around it. Says its just a normal day. Said many times at work not to get him a card or anything. Im on vacation so not like I can get him one anyways. I was tempted to reach out. Even though thats silly, he hates his birthday so texting 'Happy Birthday' would really be stupid. But I'm tempted, just even saying 'Hi how is the midterm going?' You know? Guys what can I go not to be tempted to text him/spend today constantly thinking about him?

if you did text him, what are you secretly hoping would happen? like what outcome are you craving today?

I didn't text him, but I was sort of hoping it would lead to a conversation. Id say Happy Brithday and he would thank me or id make it into a joke since he doesn't like his birthday that how is the normal day going? He might thank me or laugh it off that I know he hates his birthday. Then I would ask how he was in general, how is the midterm and he would answer back and maybe ask me? That we could have a conversation going from it. even if its lame birthday joking the whole time

reaching out usually gives me 5 minutes of relief and then hours of overthinking. sometimes i literally put my phone in another room and let the wave pass.

birthdays were my weak spot too. i told myself “it’s harmless, it’s just hi” but deep down it wasn’t about the birthday. it was about missing him and wanting a reason to exist in his day i used to spiral the whole day fighting my thumbs. it’s such a specific kind of ache

Honestly, don't send it.
