We loved each other but we broke up because I had to move back to my home country for an unknown amount of time. The uncertainty was too much for her and she decided she couldn't stay in the relationship.
I ended up returning about six months later but by then she had already moved to another country to start over. She was heartbroken too and I think leaving was part of her way of moving on.
She never really enjoyed working regular jobs. She left every job she had because none of them felt right and while she always wanted to be self-employed things didn't really work out the way she hoped.
Part of me thinks she probably isn't happy with her current job either. Her family still lives here so sometimes I catch myself wondering if she'll eventually move back. And then I wonder if maybe she'll reach out.
She used to tease me about "wishful thinking." Honestly that's probably exactly what this is.
When it comes to love she's incredibly loyal but once she makes a decision she sticks to it. Deep down I don't think she'll ever message me even if one day she comes back.

the "wishful thinking" line got me. i still let myself wonder sometimes, but i stopped making decisions around that hope. that's the only thing that finally gave me a little peace.
i had one of those relationships where nobody did anything terrible, life just pulled us onto different roads. i used to replay every "maybe someday" in my head too. it took me a while to admit i was waiting for a version of the future she never promised.
