So, a job opportunity has risen in a major city near me. I am considering applying as it would mean a break from education. A pivot into a different industry. I would have to rent out my unit and make enough to live there, and I am worried this isn’t feasible given the cost of living crisis in my Country. But… I am suddenly anxious and excited at the same time? I would have a break from education, be sad about giving up my coastal lifestyle for city in some ways, but all my friends are gone here and I do most things alone… I also had to be honest with myself that one small part of trying to get this job and make the move was to maybe bump into my ex who ended things abruptly a few weeks ago… it’s not the main reason but it is there. I feel dumb in that way, but I want to voice it because it’s true. I want him to have to face me, rather than the phone call and mailing me my things. It might never happen but there is this small part that makes me go, well… anyway, another reason I’m considering this change to the city for a year is a bigger dating pool too. I’ve been dating for 4 years where I am and met my ex and that was brief. It’s so transient (holidays, people on working visas, very image based and different crowd), smaller population and less available men. I obviously can’t guarantee I’ll meet a partner in this city (or ever- very sad thing to accept but true nonetheless) but this change feels powerful when you’re 34 and life is beautiful but on repeat.
Am I crazy for considering this change?
