So there’s this girl I really like and I think I’ve been in denial about it for months. I finally realized how much I liked her about 4 months ago but I only admitted it to myself a week ago when my friends asked if she was single.
The weird part is she was actually trying to set me up with one of her friends and I just blurted out that I love her and that she should keep other guys away from her. I didn’t even plan to say it it just came out because the thought of her being with someone else felt awful. She agreed but now I’m completely confused.
The biggest problem is she’s also one of my closest friends. She recently gave her NEET re-exam to become a doctor and if she doesn’t get the marks she needs she’ll probably move to Georgia for 7 years to study and might never come back. She’s planning to leave in September 2026.
I don’t know if I should confess before that happens. Honestly I don’t even feel good enough for her. I think I’m below average looks-wise and she feels completely out of my league. I’m trying to improve myself lose weight get a job and become someone who can make her happy but I feel like I’m running out of time.
The thing that confuses me the most is that she doesn’t even seem to like me that way. She ignores my texts a lot we don’t really talk one-on-one and we mostly just hang out when our friend group makes plans. I don’t even know why I’m so attached to her.
I’ve tried giving up so many times but I just can’t.
What am I supposed to do? Should I tell her how I feel or just let it go? I feel like I’m about to lose someone I love without even getting a chance and it honestly hurts.

i've been on the other side of this. what helped me was asking myself if i was confessing because i wanted an honest answer, or because i hoped it'd stop the panic of losing them. that question changed a lot for me.
i liked one of my closest friends too, and i kept waiting until i was "good enough." all that waiting didn't change how i felt, it just made me carry it alone longer
From experience, when a girl likes you romantically she will not ignore you. You will get a vibe from her energy, emojis, and willingness to catch up with you. My only advice is for you to emotionally detach and have her there as a friend while you work on yourself and your life. If you over extend yourself and she tells you she is not interested, it will be very brutal and might take you a long time to recover.
does she ever give you signs she wants to spend time with you one-on-one, or is it mostly you reaching out while she stays distant?
