Why 41 days of no contact feels like a lifetime

Author

She left 2.5 months ago. At 41 days straight of no-contact, I still feel a crushing sense of loneliness and depression. Even though I am getting to the gym every day and abstaining from alcohol, etc. I still have sleeping issues. I still can’t focus at work to the point at which I need to worry about my job security now. I still feel compelled to check her online activity. I don’t really see how going “no-contact” in itself does anything for me after 41 days other than maybe preserving my dignity. I was under the impression that it was supposed to make things better after about a month.

For those of you who have a longer NC streak, what made the difference in pulling your life back together? When did things start to get better?

my no contact streak felt pointless at first because i was still checking, still hoping, still stuck in my head.

Yeah, I wonder how much the checking part of it is making NC pointless for me

when you check her online activity, what are you usually hoping you’ll find? is it that you miss her, or are you looking for some proof that she misses you too?

It feels like an addiction. I guess I’m searching for information on the likelihood that she may come back a while down the road. She also basically lives online and posts whatever is on her mind without a filter so when I do check there is usually an update. It’s a very reliable way to get the information I want which is why it’s so hard to break the habit.

weeks into no contact and still waking up with that heavy chest feeling, thinking “why am i still here?” the gym and the routines helped, but the loneliness was the part that broke me the most

it’s different for everyone. mine cycles a lot - I have good days and bad days. however if you aren’t feeling any better at all from where you were at 41 days ago, maybe you could consider therapy to help move forward
