i don't think expensive gifts automatically mean someone was sure about staying.
my ex did something similar, planned sweet things and bought me gifts, then ended it not long after. i drove myself crazy trying to make those two things make sense, and i never really found an answer that made it hurt less.
when you say he got tired of you, is that something he actually told you, or is that the story your mind keeps repeating because you're trying to explain why this happened?
