Why did our perfect long-distance relationship end so suddenly?

Author

we were in a long-distance relationship for 1.5 years and honestly everything felt perfect. we talked for at least two hours every day sent each other gifts talked about our future our home our kids and promised we'd stay together forever. i was sure i was going to spend my whole life with her and she wanted that too.
then last week i finally got the chance to visit her. we had only been together for three days when she told me she wanted to break up. she said she'd lost her feelings and hadn't loved me for more than a month. she feels terrible about hurting me but says she can't control how she feels and believes it would've happened sooner or later.
i honestly don't know how to deal with this. all i can do right now is cry and drink. i can't sleep because i hear her voice and replay our memories in my head. i'm barely eating and i've gone almost two nights without sleep. part of me just wants to get drunk again tonight.
i feel completely lost. i came here hoping to hear from people who've been through something similar and maybe understand how i'm supposed to get through this.

Some people romanticize their online partners and get disappointed when things aren't the way they imagined.

I am really sorry for what you have been going through. I just wish that you both will soon find a way to work it out or maybe get back together. If that's not going to happen, I definitely want you to work on yourself, your thought processes

It's a risk showing up for her but you did it anyway. To plan flights, accommodation etc. You did your best. Find a better distraction though. Alcohol is a BITCH. You will just feel worse the morning of, and you have to preserve your health until you leave.

I'm going through the same thing. I was in a LDR, and we broke up 15 days ago. She said her feelings had changed, that she needed to rediscover herself, focus on her studies, etc.
A month ago, she desperately wanted to live with me, and now 20 days later she says she never wants to get married!

She’s 100% in the wrong for that. If she lost feelings a month ago she should’ve said it then and there.

I agree with both points. Drinking often makes a bad situation worse. Time heals all, even if it leaves a scar behind. Ride it out. Find purpose in something else.

The drinking isn't going to help. Is this your first time experiencing heart break? There's no short cuts, you just gotta ride out the pain and move on with your life. Hang out with friends and family, do your favorite hobbies, take care of yourself.

It happens. Drink your sorrows away for a few days then hit the gym. I know you don’t wanna hear it right now, but there’s someone out there that’s meant for you. Focus on yourself. Act like you don’t care and definitely don’t chase her. If it’s meant to be, she’ll come back.

I would ignore the comment suggesting you drink your sorrows away. Don’t! Alcohol can numb pain but it doesn’t cure it, you will only have to deal with it the next day plus a hangover to boot. The only way out is through, as they say. Take very good care of yourself as if you’re sick with flu, and when you have the strength to find healthy coping mechanisms like meditation, journalling, exercise, seeing friends, etc. It WILL get better.
