i'd try not to hold onto the “he'll come back in a year” promise. i had to stop waiting for an ex's future decision because it kept me stuck in the same day over and over.
my ex started giving someone else the little goodnight messages that used to be ours, and seeing that change so fast made me feel replaceable.
i know why the goodnight texts hurt so much, but do you think you're missing him, or the feeling of being the person he chose every night?
