Why letting go feels so hard after summer love

Author

i dated someone all summer and I guess we didn't communicated properly. I tried to communicate about the relationship, but he didn't engage.
All in all, I thought we were building something deeper, but he just said he struggles to form attachments and said I deserve better.
I will move to another country now, so I guess the timing is right. I overcompensated for his avoidance for the past month. I am happy to release what is not truthful, although it hurts.

i think you’re allowed to be happy about releasing it and still be heartbroken.

we were quietly building something while the other person was already keeping one foot out the door. that “you deserve better” line hurt like hell for me too, because i wanted him to choose me, not explain why they couldn’t.

Exactly. If "we deserve better", why didn't they did better? It feels that the relationship was just not truthful

do you think you’re grieving him specifically, or the deeper relationship you thought the two of you were becoming?
