I spent over a year in a deeply intense relationship where my ex-girlfriend claimed I was her world wanted to grow old together and relied on me through severe depression. However our relationship was plagued by repeated breaches of trust. After flirting with someone online she escalated to making out with her ex during a fight later confessing she loved both of us.
I stayed and through couples therapy she agreed to cut her ex off. Four months later she secretly reconnected with him again admitting she couldn't get him out of her head. When forced to choose between us she refused to commit resulting in our breakup.
The most painful part is the aftermath. After insisting for so long that she cared about me she immediately appeared happy and unbothered. She recently messaged me to say she doesn't care about me at all and sent a screenshot showing her ex as her wallpaper specifically to hurt me.
I don't understand how someone can go from planning a life with me to acting with such coldness and malice. Was our entire time together a lie or why is she acting this way?

do you think you’re more hurt by losing her, or by needing to know that the relationship meant as much to her as it meant to you?
i’d stop looking for the truth in what she’s doing now, honestly. sending you that screenshot was cruel, and i learned the hard way that someone’s cold behavior after a breakup doesn’t get to rewrite everything i lived through with them.
i’ve been through that kind of whiplash too, where someone could swear i was their whole world and then act like i meant nothing once it ended. that switch made me question every memory we had, even though i knew the love i felt was real.
she might just want you to be jealous. what she did was fucked up. if I were you I would just pretend I didn’t care about her love life.
thanks for sharing that is challenging. I get that people put on an act and are "fake" to get what they want or in your case she couldn't commit to you even after trying to make it work, which if the circumstances were flipped woule you have been given another chance? It's okay to love someone and its also okay to let them be free and thats rhe hard part. I feel like there's a certain point where a "switch is flipped" and i gwt to experience the person when they are no longer being fake, they are rude and unforgiving cold and its good to know who they truly are and focus on who you truly are
