Why am i crying? facing my family after the breakup

Through my sadness, I think I am slowly beginning to accept what has happened and trying to move forward and focus on myself. I've been taking each day as it comes, keeping myself distracted, trying to eat more and talk to people, etc. My close family members know what has hapenned, but not everyone does. I have introduced him to some extended family members too (auntys, uncles, cousins, etc) and I'm so scared for when I'm going to see them next, how I'll be or what they'll say/think. I almost feel embarrassed, sort of. My nephews on the phone during video seeing me cry even asked "Aunty, why you crying, where's Uncle R" 🥺😢 We still care about each other and love each other very much, so we've agreed to give each other space. He said he'll come back to talk when he's ready. We've both been through alot (past/childhood trauma, etc) and we've both done things to hurt each other emotionally and mentally in the relationship. I haven't gotten an explanation as to him leaving all of a sudden, but I already have an idea. Last time we spoke (few days after he left), he apologised for the way he left, and said we need space and we need to work on ourselves, to which I agreed. I believe in us and that we can get through this, but also keeping in mind that there could also be a possibility that he doesn't come back and that we don't talk. I just don't know how to face everyone I've introduced him to, and those whom I've talked to about him.

i keep thinking about your nephews asking where uncle r was, because that must have hit HARD. when you picture seeing your family again, are you more scared of their questions, or of having to say out loud that you don't know if he'll come back?
