Nearly three months after breaking up with my avoidant ex—who moved on six weeks later—she out of nowhere called me while I was heading to a hockey game. She claimed she needed help with her Jewish studies homework but her question was complete nonsense and I could hear her friends laughing in the background. I stayed flat and polite hanging up after 45 seconds.
Given her history of post-breakup mind games—like posting petty content selectively deleting photos and previously texting her ex during our relationship—I blocked her on social media long ago to focus on self-improvement. Following the call I texted her to establish a firm boundary out of respect for her new boyfriend:
"Out of respect for your boyfriend you shouldn’t be calling me. Not lookin to be a dick just don’t wanna get involved in shit."
When she replied claiming she "asked for permission first" I closed the door respectfully:
I genuinely hope you're doing well and enjoying sophomore year but I kindly ask that we don't speak unless it's a dire emergency. I want no bad blood and to respect your relationship but I want focus on moving forward and leaving the past behind. Wish you the best."
I felt insulted that she tried to drag me back into unnecessary drama right as I was finally getting my life together. I have zero interest in post-breakup toxicity and just want to keep moving forward.

i’ve had an ex pop back up with some ridiculous excuse after i’d finally started getting my head straight. i remember that little rush of anger, like seriously, why now?
