I need some perspective because I'm consumed by guilt and have no one to confide in. I am in a wonderful relationship with a sweet caring guy who I love but lately I keep bumping into a past "almost-something" from my past. We never officially dated but we had a lot of history and never got real closure before fading apart.
Every time I spot him I get an involuntary knot in my stomach. It made me realize I haven't fully moved on from that situation even though I know for a fact I don't want to be with him. I feel like a terrible partner because my boyfriend doesn't deserve this.
Why am I reacting this way to an "almost-something" when I'm genuinely happy in my current relationship and how do I stop these random run-ins from messing with my head?

i've been there with an almost-relationship too. mine never became anything official, which somehow made the loose ends feel even louder years later. that knot in your stomach didn't mean i wanted him back, and i hated myself for even having it.
i'd stop treating the reaction like a confession. what worked for me was letting the feeling show up without turning it into a story about my current relationship. i could love someone deeply and still have an old wound get poked.
when you see him, does it feel more like missing him, or like your body remembering everything that was left unfinished?
