Nothing really prepares you for when your family notices that your person isn’t around anymore 😔
Especially when it’s the kids.
Seeing some of my cousins today, my 8-year-old cousin asked, “How’s R?” And all I could say was, “He’s okay.”
Then my 4-year-old nephew in the weekend asked, “Where’s Uncle R? Is Uncle R at work? When is he coming back?” 🥺
Those questions hit differently. They’re too young to understand the situation, so you don’t know what to say without breaking their little hearts or your own.
You can prepare yourself for missing someone, but you can’t prepare for the moment the people you love start noticing their absence too 💔

i’ve been there, and the kid questions hurt in a whole different way. my little niece kept asking where my ex was, and i’d have to swallow everything before answering because i was barely holding it together myself.
It really does hurt in a completely different way 😔 Especially when you’re already struggling yourself but have to find the strength to answer their innocent questions. It’s heartbreaking 💔
giving simple answers and letting myself feel wrecked afterward instead of trying to make myself okay in front of everyone.
That’s honestly what I’m trying to do too, and it is so hard. All we can do is just give simple answers, get through the moment, and let myself feel everything afterward instead of pretending I’m okay 💔😔
your 4-year-old nephew asks about uncle R, do you find yourself wishing you could give him the real answer, or do you still feel too raw to even say it out loud?
