Why healing still hurts after a breakup

I've really been trying to focus on myself, keep busy, grow, and take things one day at a time. But some days, moments, and occasions bring the memories rushing back, and it hurts all over again.

As much as I still love and care about him, part of me wishes I could switch off the feelings, the missing, the wondering, and the hope.

I don't know what the future holds for us, but I'm slowly starting to accept that there might not be an us in the future. I know I'll be okay without him, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to imagine a future without someone I once pictured mine with.

And if I'm honest, I still wonder if he thinks of me when he sees or wears something I bought him, lies on my long, squishy cat pillow, or hears a song that reminds him of us. I wonder if those little things bring back memories for him, too. I'd be lying if I said I don't miss him, even after a whole month.

At the same time, a tiny part of me has appreciated the distance and silence, knowing we both need the space. It's given me time to reflect, understand myself better, and recognise the things I need to work on.

I'm learning that I can still love someone and let them go, miss someone and still choose myself, and hold hope while making peace with the possibility that our paths might not lead back to each other.

I'm not completely there yet. Some days are easier than others, and some hurt more than I'd like to admit. But maybe healing is learning to carry the hurt without letting it stop me from moving forward.

For now, I'm just trying to become a healthier, happier version of myself, for me. Whatever the future holds, I hope I'll look back on this chapter with a peaceful heart, knowing I loved genuinely, learned a lot, and gave myself the chance to heal 🤍

i remember thinking a month should be enough to feel a little better, then a song or some tiny thing would bring it all back. i still wonder if my ex remembers those little pieces of us too, and honestly, some days that thought hurts more than i expect

i’ve been learning that i can miss someone like crazy and still leave the silence alone. letting go took me longer when i kept checking for signs that they missed me too, so i’m trying to let my healing belong to ME now.

I'm learning this too. It's so hard to miss someone and still choose to respect the silence, especially when a part of you hopes they miss you too. But I’m trying to make my healing about me now, rather than looking for signs or holding onto expectations 😔

it is exhausting. the rollercoaster of waves and emotions hurt. getting through each day knowing the pain will leasen doesn't help the days hoing through it. it also doesn't help having to uphold all your responsibilities that are necessary when you feel like an entire half of who you are is missing

So true! It's exhausting trying to carry on with everyday responsibilities when a part of you feels missing. I've really been trying to take things one day at a time and give myself grace on the days when it feels heavier than others 😢

do you find yourself hoping your paths cross again, or are you slowly starting to feel okay with the idea that they might not?

Honestly, a part of me still hopes our paths will cross again someday. I still love and care about him, so I don't think that hope will just disappear overnight. But I'm also trying to accept that I can't predict the future, and I need to keep healing and growing regardless of what happens 😢
