Why his cousin's wedding is making my heartache worse

Author

Today was hard because his cousin's wedding, that we were supposed to attend together, is coming up at the end of the month. I said before we broke up in August that I wouldn't go when our relationship was not going well, but now that we broke up, it's easier to hold that boundary, but more sad, I guess. I think part of me was hoping that the relationship would be healed by now...but things took a different turn, and I'm on day 39 of No Contact. I'm trying to be extra kind and gentle with myself today. Going to Aldi after work, so I'm going to pick up an easy meal that only needs to be put in the microwave, and dumplings. Dumplings seem to make everything better these days.

And then...there's my best friend. Who...I'm pretty in love with...

He said that he's doing better than my ex because he's talking about his feelings, especially around work. While my ex just...shut down communication. He also offered to TELL MY EX TO APOLOGIZE TO ME!!! I know, crazy. Don't worry, I told him not to. But...it's sweet how he's come to my defense and put the breakup into perspective. I mean, he's talked to me every day this past summer while my ex let ME handle the whole damn communication department!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Am I going to date him right away? No. Not while I'm like this. If things are gonna work outthis time with such an important person, I need to show up HEALED, for both of our sakes...

when my best friend stepped up during my breakup was letting him be a safe harbor without rushing to make him my next anchor. taking your time to heal before diving into anything new with him is so wise, because putting your energy into yourself right now protects both your heart and that special bond.

did holding that boundary about the wedding make no contact feel a little easier today, or did it bring up a fresh wave of missing him?

dates on the calendar like weddings you were supposed to go to together hit like a ton of bricks. i remember when my ex's sister got married a month after we split and i sat home eating takeout, feeling that exact mix of relief that i held my boundary and deep sadness for the future we lost. proud of you for getting through day 39 and grabbing those dumplings tonight, you deserve that comfort.
