Why i can miss him and still move on

I miss him.

Not in a way that makes me sad or sends me spiralling. I'm actually doing okay. I've been keeping busy, getting out more, talking to people, opening up and getting support through therapy. I'm focusing on myself and taking things one day at a time. I know I'm making progress, and I'm proud of myself for that.

But every now and then, he crosses my mind, and I realise that I miss him. There's no overwhelming sadness attached to it, no urge to reach out or do anything about it. It's just a thought, a quiet acknowledgement that I still miss someone who once meant so much to me.

We still see each other's Instagram stories, little glimpses into our everyday lives and what we've been up to. I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything, and I'm not trying to read into it. It's simply a reminder that we're still out there, living our separate lives.

I'm not going to message him or force a conversation. I'm just having one of those moments where I miss him a little more than usual. I still care about him, and sometimes I wonder how he's doing. I genuinely hope he's okay, that life is being kind to him and that he's finding his own peace, wherever life takes him.

It's a strange but peaceful feeling, being able to miss someone without feeling the need to do anything about it. To care about them from a distance, wish them well and accept that, for now, you're both walking your own paths.

Maybe this is part of healing, too. Not forgetting someone or pretending they never mattered, but learning to carry the memories and feelings without letting them hold you back.

Tonight, I don't need to do anything with these feelings. I can miss him and still keep moving forward. I can care about him and still choose myself. Some days are easier than others, and I guess tonight is just one of those days where I miss him a little extra 🤍

i can miss someone and still leave things where they are. i stopped treating every wave of missing him like a reason to do something about it, and that brought me so much peace.

How lucky are we to have someone to miss?☺️ it means time together was well spent, no regrets. we can look back at memories fondly without wanting to date them again, it's like thank you for our time together and I hope you have a good rest of the journey type of feeling

i relate to this so much. when you see each other's stories, do you ever wonder if he misses you too, or are you mostly at peace with not knowing anymore?

I feel like I'm in that stage right now. There's this song that keeps repeating in my brain that reminds me of him and it makes me sad. It's weird honestly? After such a long time of sadness and loneliness, the peace we feel now almost feels unfamiliar. I miss him a lot too, but now I've come to terms that it just wasn't meant to be. I hope he's happy with his life and all his problems are solved, I hope he feels as peaceful as I do now.

i remember this stage, when i could think about my ex and actually feel okay, then miss him a little extra on certain nights. it felt strange to still care without wanting to go back
