My ex says she wants another chance because she realizes how good we had it. I wish her well but I can't go back to a chapter I've already closed.I recently broke up with my now ex-girlfriend at the end of May. We had been together since March 2024 and I’m still dealing with a lot of emotions because the breakup wasn’t mutual.
She has high-functioning autism and we often experienced things differently in the relationship. I’m naturally more affectionate and physically expressive while she isn’t and that difference became one of the reasons she decided to end things. She felt our affection styles might keep pulling us apart and I understood that part.
What confused me were the other reasons she gave. She said we were on “different paths” and that I needed to “find myself” which I struggled to fully understand. I feel grounded in my life right now. I’m heading into my final year of university studying criminology planning for law school and I also work two jobs including an internship at a courthouse.
From my perspective things felt mostly good between us. We had disagreements but I thought that was normal. What’s been hardest is how quickly she seemed able to step away after everything we shared. I was very involved in her life and now everything feels empty and unfamiliar without her.
I’ve been trying to cope by staying close to family and friends and starting therapy but I’m still struggling a lot and trying to make sense of it all.

i'm really glad you're leaning on your family, friends, and therapy. that helped me too. i had to stop chasing explanations that she couldn't give me and start accepting that her decision was enough, even when i hated it.
i kept trying to find the perfect reason that would make the breakup make sense, but sometimes the answer is just that two people wanted different things. it HURTS, especially when you thought the relationship was solid
when she said you needed to "find yourself," do you think she was trying to explain her own feelings, or do you think she was using words because she didn't know how to say she simply didn't want the relationship anymore?
Thankyou for sharing. That sounds rough.
