Ever since my ex and I broke up in February, there was a time that we were communicating and trying to work it out. Originally she didn’t want to be in a relationship with me again but she gradually started to “fall in love” with me again. In April, we committed or I should say I committed to working things out with her. In mid-May, she grows cold and distant and I knew our time was up. 3 days later, I find out she has a new boyfriend. I’m completely broken because we have been close since we were just kids and for her to get a new boyfriend seemed like I was replaceable. For the next three weeks, I tried hard to work on myself and accept that she has a life without me. Her birthday which was in June hit me the hardest because I bought her a promise ring and was preparing to take her on an expensive birthday dinner. A couple of nights later, my sisters encouraged me to text her a full paragraph explaining my feelings to her which my sister who is our age sent to my ex (they are acquainted). We have our last conversation that morning and she told me that she felt lucky to find her guy and that he had met her family already. I felt heartbroken so I was honest and told her that it was painful to hear and that I wanted to get my life together before I truly enter another relationship. I told her I loved her and that I understood the struggles she was still facing and that I had her back. I also told her that I still want to be married and have a good career. She asks me am I planning on find another woman this year in a suspicious tone. I also told her I would not be moving back to my old town for my own peace and she said that she was looking forward to seeing me. I told her I wanted to return the stuff but she said that I should keep it because I was special to her and that she still has a soft spot for me. I refused. We hung and that’s the last we talked. I have gradually worked on myself and have made progress. But I simply can’t get over my wanting for her to realize what she lost. It’s eating me away and I know it’s my ego.

putting that energy into becoming someone i was proud of, not someone i hoped my ex would notice. the need to "win" got quieter once i stopped checking if they were watching.
i've been there, and that part about wanting them to realize what they lost hit me hard. after my ex moved on, i wanted that moment more than i wanted peace. it took me a while to admit i was chasing validation, not them.
if she suddenly came back tomorrow and never admitted she lost someone special, would you still want her, or is it the acknowledgment you're really craving?
you will only win when you do not care about her anymore.. work towards that..
Hey Friend, I completely understand what are you going through.
Especially on the part you mentioned waiting for them to realize and regret losing you
I recently ended a five year relationship, Infidelity was the main problem and it’s Been going on for the whole five years of our relationship. Silly me decided to stay that long till I had enough. During the strength and courage I had to leave I could see just how cold he was. A part of me knew, he thinks I will come back and isnt impacted by my distance
I keep hoping, it hits him quick that I’ve left and he becomes miserable from me leaving and how badly he treated me.
