Why did my relationship end so suddenly after just 3 months?

Yesterday my girlfriend of 3 months (we had been seeing each other for about 4 and a half months) broke up with me. I know some people might see it as a short relationship but I honestly can’t even explain the feelings I’m going through right now.
The whole relationship felt so healthy. We never had any major arguments or disagreements. We were happy loving affectionate and everything felt easy. We had just been talking about future plans going out for our 6 months and even taking a holiday together next year. That’s why this came as such a shock.
Yesterday evening she changed our Saturday plans from dinner to just going for a walk. I had a feeling something was wrong so I asked if we could call. I was out having dinner with my family when she told me she had been questioning whether she wanted to continue the relationship.
She said she was feeling overwhelmed with the rest of Year 12 school work and the fear of missing out on time with her friends. Hearing that broke me. I started crying in the middle of the street because I couldn’t understand how something that felt so good could suddenly be ending.
I asked why she didn’t want to talk through it with me and try to work on things but she said she felt clear about her decision. I don’t feel angry at her. I just feel confused hurt and lost.
She told me she felt like I was too dependent on her emotionally. She said when she was sad I became sad and when she was stressed I became stressed. I understand where she was coming from because all I wanted was to support her make her feel better and be there for her. I didn’t realize that I was putting so much emotional weight on the relationship until now.
She also said she felt it was unfair because I put so much effort into the relationship and she didn’t feel like she gave the same amount back. The thing that hurt the most was when she said she didn’t think she loved me as much as I loved her.
That was hard to hear because our relationship felt full of love. We were always cuddling kissing laughing and enjoying each other’s company. For her 18th birthday I got her a $400 necklace along with some other thoughtful gifts and a card. That night I told her I loved her for the first time and she smiled and said it back. Now she’s questioning whether that love was as strong as mine.
I know relationships aren’t always perfectly balanced and I knew we were different people. She’s more independent while I leaned on her more emotionally. I just wish she gave me a chance to work on that instead of making the decision alone.
She kept telling me that it wasn’t because I did anything wrong. She said I was a great boyfriend and that I treated her well. That almost makes it harder because I don’t have anything to blame it on.
The beginning of our relationship was amazing. We clicked instantly after meeting at an 18th birthday party. We had so much in common and it felt like a genuine connection. I planned dates made effort and gave everything I had.
A few days before the breakup we went to her brother’s 21st and I felt like she was being distant. I thought I was overthinking it but I brought it up anyway. In the end I was the one apologising because I realized maybe nothing was wrong. Later she told me she cried the next morning because she had already been thinking about whether she wanted to continue.
We talked briefly about it and things seemed okay for a few days. Then when we broke up over the phone she sounded so calm and distant. I know everyone handles emotions differently but it still hurt because I know she cared about me.
Two weeks ago we had our first sleepover at my holiday house. We became intimate and had our first time together. It was such a special moment for both of us and felt like a big step in our relationship.
I miss everything. I miss cuddling her kissing her her voice her smell and even the thought of not being able to talk to her family anymore hurts.
I feel completely broken right now. I know compared to some stories this relationship was short but it meant so much to me. I’m hoping someone can give me some perspective because I’m struggling to understand how something that felt so right could end so suddenly.
We ended things on good terms. I wished her the best for the rest of Year 12 while trying not to cry and we hung up. She still hasn’t removed or unfollowed me anywhere and a part of me is holding onto hope even though my best friend keeps reminding me that I can’t stay stuck there.
I’m about to enter the most important term of my life and I feel like I just lost the person who had become my whole world.

Really sorry to hear that buddy , this can't be east especially it being sudden, you sound like respectable guy who tried to put in the effort to make . While this is a sad situation, it sounds like there was still respect there from both of you . which days a lot about you both . As hard as it is to hear at least she has enough respect to be open and honest with you instead of dragging things on when later down the line you felt deeper feelings for her . I would say use this time to continue to grow and use it as a learning curve for growth and an opportunity to learn more about yourself and life in general . I know it probably don't feel lile it now but in time it will hget better and you will look back on it and become a better person and better equipped when you enter a new relationship. For now perhaps just focus on yourself . Keep your head up and stay strong

shorter relationships can be really hard to break up from because you were still in the ‘honeymoon phase’ where all the love hormones and chemicals are firing that force you to bond with someone, that is why feel like such a strong withdrawal. focus on healing as best as you can ❤️

looking back now, do you think she had been pulling away for a while but was trying to convince herself to stay, or did this really feel completely out of nowhere to you?

i went through a breakup that only lasted a few months too, and people acted like i should've been over it because it was "short." she didn't see how much of my heart was in it.

It sounds like you really cared for her, but unfortunately if someone expresses how they feel its best to give them some space. it is always a shock when someone ends things, im sorry you are going through this. I hope you find some advice and support here.
