about two years ago we met right after i won my first custody battle. we clicked right away. she told me i was her person that i pulled her out of one of the darkest times in her life.
not long after she quit her job and stayed home to watch my kids while i worked. she has two boys of her own. during that time i covered the rent and utilities on my trailer plus her water electricity groceries and other bills.
when school started last year she got a part-time job. around the same time my ex-wife moved away so i became the primary parent. she stepped into the role of a stepmom and became a big part of my kids' lives.
this past january we moved into her place. i replaced the flooring in her son's room stood by her when her son was caught shoplifting and hiding stolen items under my daughter's bed kept helping with the bills and supported her through the legal case involving her ex-husband. all along she told everyone we were going to get married. she called my kids her stepchildren and promised them she would never leave them the way their mother had. she knew what that kind of abandonment felt like because her own father left when she was a child.
then three weeks ago everything changed. i came home after dropping the kids off at school and she told me she was done and needed space. i packed up and went back to my trailer. she blocked me everywhere.
a little later she unblocked me and said she thought she wanted an upright life but wasn't sure anymore. she said she would reach out because we had agreed to have dinner in two weeks. that never happened.
i haven't seen her since i left her house. she's avoided me completely and i haven't heard a single word from her since that last conversation.
i've stayed in no contact because i don't know what else to do. the hardest part is watching my kids go through this. they loved her like a mom and they're heartbroken. i'm hurting too but seeing what this has done to them is what breaks me the most.
i honestly don't know where to go from here.

when she left, did she ever explain what changed for her, or did it feel like she just walked away without giving you a real reason
Can I ask an honest question. In your story it all seems to be about what you did for each other, not about feelings or love. aside from your kids living her. Do you feel the relationship provided you both with the things you needed to get through a difficult time in both your lives? That's not a bad thing. But maybe its time to find a relationship that fills you with love and connection.
