I didn’t want to rush anything, and I didn’t want us to fall into adultery or fornication. Until she started sharing her sexual preferences, all I thought they were desires. I chose to overlook the red flags because I genuinely believed that, given her background, there had to be more to who she was than those desires. I even blamed social media algorithms for influencing her.
Part of me had a provider and protector mindset some might call it a saviour complex. I wanted to be with her, guide her, and protect her. In the process, I ended up diminishing myself and compromising my own self-respect.
Now I’m blocked, and I’ve had to face the reality of it all. I don’t feel angry at her, but I am disappointed in myself for ignoring what I knew deep down. The darkest thoughts tell me I could have just used her and walked away, but that’s not who I am and never will be.
What hurts most isn’t losing her it’s feeling like I lost my dignity for a moment. I’m learning that having good intentions isn’t enough if they come at the expense of my own values and self-respect. I’ll carry the lesson, keep my principles, and move forward with my head held high.
