I think im ready to move on, but im not the kind of person who feels attraction easily. On average I'd find someone every 2 years. Whether we date for a couple of weeks or a couple of months, I've never had a long term relationship since my 20s. My ex and I lasted 8 months, but I can honestly say I've never loved anyone the way I loved him, but thats also because I abandoned myself because I was so scared of losing him. I lost him anyway. But in a way it set me free to become the person I needed to be.
When we ended, we still loved each other but im at peace knowing that love isn't enough. I just love him from a quiet distance.
At times I feel lonely but im ok with that because I felt that a lot before him. When I was with him I was finally a part of group chats and people would contact me. But not anymore.
I guess the point of my post is for a while I've felt ok, the memories dont punch me in the gut, I've just been living life and doing things I enjoy. We broke up at the start of April, but for the last 2 weeks I've dreamt of him every night. It makes me think of him and miss him. Its hard to try and ignore that maybe the universe is telling me something. But he knows if he needs to, he can contact me.
After last nights dream of us hanging out as friends, I woke up this morning and said "It was nice to see you" into the abyss. Maybe my dreams just need acknowledgement

i love that you said “it was nice to see you” into the abyss. honestly, that feels like enough sometimes. i stopped treating every dream as a sign and just let myself miss my ex when it happened, then kept living my life.
where you finally feel okay and then your ex starts showing up in your dreams every damn night. i used to wake up missing mine too, even after i knew i was better without him.
so proud of you
I really like the way you’re handling this. I don’t think the dreams necessarily mean you’re supposed to go back to him. Sometimes when we’ve finally become okay during the day, our brain processes the feelings we haven’t fully acknowledged while we sleep.
And I love that you said “it was nice to see you” instead of fighting the dream or trying to find a deeper meaning in it. Maybe that’s all your heart needed — to acknowledge that you still love and miss him sometimes, without turning that feeling into a reason to reopen the door.
You can miss someone and still know that you’re better moving forward. Both things can be true. 🤍
this response means so much to me. thank you from the bottom of my heart for validating my experience
