Why do guys change after getting comfortable?

Author

How do men just switch up easily? they are nice and friendly in the beginning then act all weird when they get comfortable with you. this guy and i’m not dating but he knows i liked him. we agreed to be friends despite the complications that happened between us. and i feel he’s not acting the same anymore since he went back home. a few days ago we were talking just fine until then i noticed he’d been dry and distant. i remembered our latest conversation on the phone that he seemed to be bothered by something. so i brought it up over text, of why he’s been distant lately. he said to give him time and about some religious stuff. i left him on seen for 2d now becuz idk what to say or if i even want to reply. ik that i should becuz if i just leave it be the connection will die. but if i do then i’d feel like im forcing it becuz it seems that i’m the one who genuinely wants to talk while he doesn’t gaf. it hurts. i got attached to him to the point where my mood depends on his amount of texting and its frequency. what do i do?

do you actually want a friendship with him right now, or are you hoping the friendship keeps you close enough that something more could still happen?

i stopped trying to keep connections alive by myself. if someone asks for time, i give it to them, and i let their effort after that tell me where i stand. chasing replies only made me feel worse.

i got attached to someone's texting too, and every dry reply felt like a little rejection even when nothing had actually happened. it hurts when you can feel yourself caring way more than they seem to.
