To those who knew they didnt treat their exes right, when your exes moved on to someone new quickly have you ever thought to yourself "you're only with them because you wouldn't give me time to change for the better/because I didn't treat you right"? like obviously that's part of moving on in a way ofc but i mean like they tell you "we can't get back together unless you change" or something like that etc i was told that and i was doing my absolute hardest to change for the better and I thought it was going great I was expecting me and my ex-gf to get back together by August/September time then I realised i got blocked start of August and I knew she was talking with this guy but I figured "yeah they're just friends because she's only in college and he's like 4-5 years out" until a friend sent me a screenshot of her story and it was their chat in love hearts but again I didn't think much of it but then another friend told me they were matching pfp's and I felt betrayed because I was told that we would get back together (in these words): "I promise this isn't forever and we both know we will get back together you just need to change your ways, I will always love you" and ofc i kept that deep in me really believing it and then not even 2 months later i find out she's with a much older guy and I just always think "you're only with him because i wasnt treating you the best but i was doing my absolute hardest to get better FOR YOU" and it just felt like a stab to the back because of that one promise.

holding onto one promise so tightly that every new thing my ex did felt like proof they had betrayed me. i was changing, i really was, but it hurt like hell realizing they had already chosen a different life while i was still building myself around the hope of getting them back
i had to accept that my ex could mean what they said at the time and still change their mind later. i stopped making my progress depend on whether they came back, because otherwise every step forward felt like something i was doing for them instead of myself.
why didnt u treat them right if u dont mind sharing?
its not that I wanted to, i never meant to hurt them. I only realised i was hurting them when they told me and I was then trying to stop with that I was doing to hurt them but then I fell back into the same pattern again without realising but I think it was so much more difficult for me because I won't know ive done something unless I realise myself or if it's said directly at me and it was always so difficult to know so I would ask them if i had they'd say I didn't then a few days later tell me what I did and it was so confusing to me I never meant to hurt them i would never try to hurt anyone
i mean it could just be that they r genuinely in love and its not to get back at you.. cus love does have its way of popping up in the most random and sudden times
i get that but it was only 2 months and they were talking even before we broke up but i knew that and I thought it was just friends I dont believe they cheated on me at all but its the fact I know now that he was WAITING for my ex to legally be an adult just for them to get together that's what disgusts me and in the nicest possible way to put it I hope they breakup because an 18 year old and a 23 year old is weird. I want them to find better and someone similar age to them.
do you think you're hurting more because she's with someone else, or because you believed that promise and built your whole hope around it?
i believed that promise
