When you love someone but can't be together

Author

hey everybody!
y ex and I broke up on “good” terms. He told me that he loves me more than anything, but that we’re simply not good for each other and keep hurting each other. He kissed my forehead, then my lips, and told me that he’ll always be there for me and that I can call him anytime. And that’s exactly what I did whenever I felt lonely, needed to cry, or was struggling. He was always there for me and listened to me. We love each other, and he misses me just as much as I miss him, but he doesn’t want a relationship. How am I supposed to get over him like this?

he explicitly tell you to call him whenever you need him, or are you the one initiating every single time you hit a hard moment

that's hard. but honestly you need to stop relying on him to help you through your hard times. he has told you more than once that ye doesn't want to be with you and some time like a month or so has past? then you need to stop talking to him so you can heal properly. don't keep doing this to yourself. you will never let your heart and mind heal if he is always your comfort. you need to be able to learn how to self soothe. you were able to b4 him or had a different way. you need to hear him when he is being honest about not wanting to be with you. you deserve more than a friend. if he wanted to, he would.

this is my exact situation i’m struggling too. our relationship was beautiful but he realized he needed to do some things before fully committing and we just recently went our separate ways. we are in this together, one day at a time :)

My ex did the same exact thing I was crushed and went to him, it felt good but I couldn't move on until I told him I needed a few weeks of no contact and I still think about him and I sometimes want to talk to him but I'm doing much better now and I talk more to new people and am closer to my family and friends

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. My question to you is, are you genuinely okay with this platonic relationship between the both of you?

I’m currently going through a breakup as well and don’t have the same going for me. She broke up with me, blocked me on everything and I’m crushed to pieces.

If “getting over him” is your goal, I think you need to ask yourself if this relationship you currently have with him post breakup is gonna help you achieve your goal. If it isn’t gonna help, then I think the good choice, although painful, is to go no contact. so that you can heal.
