Does 'i wish we were still together' mean he wants me back?

i’d pay more attention to his actions than one sentence. my ex told me he wished we were still together, then disappeared when it came time to actually fix anything. words can come from loneliness too

when he said it, did it feel like he was opening a conversation or more like he was grieving what you two had?

No he doesn't mean it . If he did he would try by all means that it may happen unless everytime he brings it up you avoid the topic because he may be hinting but afraid of being straight forward or he is just lying because he feels bad if the break up was his fault

my ex used to say stuff like that too. sometimes people really do miss the relationship and still love you, but that doesn’t always mean they’re ready or able to come back and make things work.
