Why can't i stop rereading her messages?

Author

we broke up 19 days ago and i told her it'll take time and trust building before i can be friends with her, she said she was okay with that and she'd wait, the info must not have sunk in for her because she kept trying to talk to me as if we were besties. i told her i needed space. yesterday we had an altercation in our friend group and she decided to go no contact with me. her last message was her saying i think the worst of her and she wanted to be my friend but i kept putting her at a distance and i was passive aggressive (the last message i sent to her), and she doesnt deserve that. it kind of annoys me she wanted me to immediately be happy besties with her when i told her a few times i cant do that. its hard not to reread her last message to me; i wanna read it and get mad and hate her.
my biggest regret is how this will affect our mutual friends 😞. I'm scared I'll lose them, but i wouldnt fully blame them if they didnt want me anymore

i think asking for space was fair. i stopped rereading the last messages after i realized i was only using her to stay angry, and it just kept me stuck longer.

my ex kept acting like we could just skip to being friends too, and every time i asked for space i somehow ended up feeling like the bad guy.

have any of your mutual friends actually pulled away from you yet, or is your brain filling in that worst case because everything still feels so fresh?

Just explain to them how you are feeling. true friends would understand.
perhaps she is struggling letting go of your connection. my ex has asked for space and I still reach out because I am struggling. I am sure she isn't doing it for malicious reasons.
