So I went for dinner with a friend. She recently broke up with her boyfriend and moved into a new apartment. We know each other from work, so he knew little about my past relationship and I knew little about hers.
So she started telling me about her ex and his behavior. It's nothing bad, just small things that kept adding up and I could see a lot of similarities. Both our exes have a disease that they have as an excuse, but never really change anything for the better. Me and my friend we both got huge amounts of books to read up on the conditions, come up with ideas, help, but they never accepted the help. Other things like when I had a shitty day at work or I told my ex about something that bothered me that day I mostly got "oh, Im sorry" "that sounds tough". he never followed up with more questions. And I always tried to tell him what bothered me, but he never understood.
well long story short. I think her relationship would've been mine if me and my ex had moved together and ended the long distance relationship. You never know, but I am glad it happened while I am still close to my friends, rather when I am in a completely different country.
I love my ex, I still wish him the best and I am hoping for a conversation. But I wouldn't want a relationship like I had the past months. There is still a lot of hurt feelings. I still miss him and I will probably cry about this tonight again. But I think I am detaching.

glad you could see those similarities with your friend, even if it stung. do you think you're hoping for that conversation because you still want answers, or because a part of you still hopes things could be different?
I would want answers. I still wish for us to meet in like 5 years, him having the right amount of time to reflect and properly work on himself. Because I really liked us together. not how it was towards the end.
the moment i realized i was grieving the idea of the relationship more than the reality of it. that hurt in a completely different way, but it was also the first time i felt myself letting go a little.
im glad that you were able to talk with someone who experienced a similar situation like yours it kinda puts it into prospective of what you wouldve gone through had you moved.
stay strong at least you saying the bad out loud and owning it.
