Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
"A Dream Within A Dream" -Edgar Allan Poe
Im learning how to release my control of the situation I am in. I didn't ask for my love to leave me. But the reality is she is never coming back. So I must loosen my grip on the situation and let her go.
I cherish the memories of how I loved her. Kissing the tears off her cheeks when she cried, looking into her eyes and getting lost in the beauty of the soul beneath them, and making her feel loved each and every second I spent with her.
That capacity for love is uniquely mine. I refuse to let it die with our relationship. I did my part in loving her. I wasn't perfect and I accept my own failures. But I am not waiting on her anymore.
My grip is loosened permanently, and I cannot save what has already ended by holding on tighter.
So this is goodbye to my love of the last 5 years. I mourn the future we had planned and the past where our love felt eternal. I look fondly on our past and carry what I learned into my continuous search for love. I am grateful for having met you, for falling in love with you, and for learning so much about myself through the suffering and pain of losing you.
You mattered so much to me.

did writing this out feel like the official turning point for you, or do you still catch yourself trying to hold on when the waves hit?
