Why am i still in love with my ex after two years?

It’s been over two years and I’m still deeply in love with my ex. Every good moment I experience hurts because I can't share it with her and I cry constantly over how much love I still hold with nowhere for it to go. I used to think heartbreak only happened to people who made bad choices but I loved her completely and things still ended in the most painful way possible.
I'm drowning in regret over all my past mistakes stupid words and missed opportunities. Despite getting new hobbies making friends and trying to move forward the ache hasn't faded. I feel immense guilt and anger at myself for still hurting after all this time terrified that my lingering feelings are disrespectful to her and ruining the memory of what we had. How do you forgive yourself and finally let go when time alone isn't fixing it?

understand and accept your mistakes were okay, we are all learning. hug your inner child for making those mistakes and soothe yourself.

i spent years loving someone who was no longer in my life, and even the happiest moments hurt because he was the one i wanted to tell first. i hated myself for still missing him long after everyone thought i should be fine

Can I ask, does it not ever make you feel any anger or sadness that she is choosing to live her life without you and actively chooses to never check if you are ok?

I, too, get frustrated with myself for caring so much still when I know we can’t be. It’s a good lesson and just how much of a process and how difficult it can be to allow oneself to feel all the feelings when they’re so weighty that they can bog you down to the point of paralysis.
