Years after breaking up with an ex I still care deeply about she recently popped back into my life out of nowhere. We had gone eight months without speaking after she failed to support me through a trauma but then she randomly sent old dating photos chatted for a day and ghosted.
Over the past month she's been calling me at odd hours. Because my phone glitches I missed the calls but every time I text back asking if everything is okay she goes radio silence or gives me a dry "hey" before disappearing again. My friends tell me to move on but I still love her and worry about her well-being. Is she playing games or am I missing something obvious about why she keeps reaching out only to pull away?

i know how confusing it is when someone you still love suddenly comes back and brings all those old feelings with them.
someone reaching out doesn't always mean they're ready to show up for you. i used to read so much into every little message from my ex, but i had to stop treating a random text like a promise.
when she calls and then goes quiet again, do you feel more worried about what might be happening to her, or more hurt that she keeps opening the door and leaving you standing there
She was thinking of you and in a moment of weakness, called you, looked at your old photos, wanted to see that you're still there and not gone. Her walls immediately went back up. You can't hope or try to get her to come back, you need to move on with your life. It'll torture you.
Sounds like a lot of mind games. I would move on. The right one will be clear in their communication with you about what they want.
