I thought I was doing fine but a dream two nights ago brought back the familiar chest pain and knot in my stomach. I rarely ever dream so waking up with just the memory of you being there completely threw me off. Now I’ve spent the past two days replaying every memory every mistake I made and all the times you made me cry.
It’s been months and while I moved on much faster in past relationships you sank so deep into me despite keeping me at arm's length the entire time. I should have seen the red flags and walked away sooner instead of giving you my all.
Since we ended my life has done a complete 180—mentally physically and socially. I've changed so much you wouldn't even recognize me and I know in my heart I don't want you back. It just hurts that even when you're long gone you can still leave an echo of grief in my chest.

you think the dream hurt more because you miss parts of what you had, or because it brought back how much they made you hurt
i used to beat myself up whenever old memories came back, like i was undoing all my progress.
i've had a dream about my ex months after i thought i was fine, and waking up with that ache felt so unfair. you can know you don't want someone back and still grieve what they left behind.
