maybe I just couldn’t rip the bandaid off. I wanted there to still be hope in my mind of us being together one day, under different circumstances. So I suggested a 40 day break, where we focus on ourselves and agree not to see other people. To self reflect and see if we both really want this relationship. I won’t like I didn’t want it right now, as it is. But I didn’t want to give up the idea of things changing and being better someday. So, he ripped it off for me and told me goodbye.

trying to call it a break because saying breakup out loud felt way too final. i wanted that little door left open so badly, and when he closed it himself, it hurt like losing the relationship and the hope at the same time.
i think i did the same thing once, gave myself a deadline because i needed to believe some version of us could still work later. what helped me was letting the goodbye be real even though part of me still wanted a different ending.
when you asked for those 40 days, were you hoping the space would change the relationship, or were you mostly trying to give yourself more time before having to let him go?
