Why letting go is so hard after just two months

Author

We were only together for two months—which I know isn't a long time—but we spent basically every single day together. I fell for him so deeply and got incredibly attached.
We broke up recently on good terms. I was the one who ended things because despite how much I loved him being in the relationship was causing me more pain than joy. I just wasn't happy anymore.
Now I'm completely paralyzed. I'm lying in bed with zero motivation to do anything. Even though I know exactly why I ended it I can't stop the urge to call text or go running back to him. I feel like I'm going insane without him in my life.
How do you actually let go when your heart is still deeply in love with the person?

This sub has plenty of advice.
In short. Some are able to let go, some never able to let go. It’s down to each person. The passage of time usually helps the most. Unfortunately this just happened to you. Two months is a very short relationship.

I think sometimes letting go doesn’t mean you stop loving someone. It means accepting that loving them isn’t always enough to make the relationship healthy or right for you. You can miss them, love them, and still choose not to go back to something that was hurting you. The urge to call or text will come in waves, but it won’t always feel this intense. Give yourself time and remind yourself why you chose to leave in the first place. You don’t have to stop loving them today—you just have to keep choosing yourself one day at a time.
