Should i give up hope on us?

Author

hi everyone I am new here.
my ex and I were together for just over 6yrs and on our 6th year anniversary he proposed and I said yes.

2wks ago my partner packed all his things and left me due to wanting space (we had several arguments leading up to it). last week we met up and he wanted to break up. I let him have his space and Friday/Saturday he caved and began messaging me (partly because he was horny). Sunday just gone, we met up again as we thought we could rekindle things. I was able to get things off my chest and able to apologise and thank him for everything. I felt relieved and I really thought we could either have a 3 month break or live separately and meet up every now and then. we had a good chat and he opened up about his friends influencing him because he’s a mechanic - his drift car is at his friends house. his friend gave him an ultimatum of if we get back together then he will stop being his friend and won’t help him with his drift car. then we ended up having sex (don’t know if that’s appropriate to say here). Once we finished he checked his phone and received messages from his friends saying how much of an idiot he was for seeing me. this really influenced how he felt and it’s like he shut off from me. He complete changed and said we shouldn’t be together. he pushed me away and just completely changed saying we can’t be together anymore. I really don’t know how to feel and although I dont want to give up hope on us… should I? mixed emotions as I really don’t know how to feel. do I give him space and think there is a chance?

I’ve been speaking to his mother and she also thinks his decisions have been influenced by those around him. I’m scared that I’m latching onto his mum as a sigh of hope that we might get back together or have a shot. what should I do?

i was engaged too, and watching someone go from "let's fix this" to "we're done" that fast messed with my head. if his feelings change every time his friends get involved, i'd let his actions speak louder than the little bits of hope he's giving you.

that's a weird thing for a 40 year old to be saying.

if a man is that easily influenced by othsr people to make important decisions about his life, I would step away. Also what kind of friend says something like that? How old is he?
