After two years together my girlfriend and I broke up just one month into long distance for college. We love each other deeply and healed each other through high school but we realized we both need space to grow into independent people. We ended things on good terms both hoping fate and time will bring us back together in the future to marry and have kids.
Despite knowing this distance is necessary for our personal growth the heartbreak is brutal. When I'm alone I get swallowed by an empty void replaying our memories and missing her voice and affection. Even when I try to focus on studying hobbies or friends time feels like it's moving at a excruciatingly slow pace. I'm overwhelmed trying to manage this pain alongside my everyday responsibilities. How do you move on from a mutual breakup when the love is still there—do you just grit your teeth until it stops hurting?

loving someone deeply while knowing the relationship still had to end. mine was mutual too, which somehow made it harder because there was nobody to be angry at. that empty space after losing their voice and little routines is brutal.
i trying to force myself to “move on” and getting frustrated when i still missed her months later.
when you both still love each other and even talk about finding your way back someday, how are you supposed to grieve the relationship without secretly putting your whole life on pause for that possibility?
