After six months of exclusive dating he ended things four days ago. Just a week prior we had a deep conversation where he opened up about his past relationship trauma and his fear of commitment. It felt like a breakthrough but he stayed distant and we got into an argument over text while I was abroad. After three days of silence he texted me to break it off.
We spoke in person and ended on good terms still following each other everywhere. His main reason was having too many doubts about moving forward into an official relationship. It hurts because I fell hard for him and I have a strong gut feeling that our story isn't over yet. Do you think he'll come back or am I just holding onto false hope?

he timing of this hurts so much. i had someone open up to me about all their fears, and i thought we were finally getting closer, only for them to pull away days later. i kept replaying that conversation, trying to figure out how something so intimate could end so suddenly.
the hard way that someone can have real feelings for you and still not be ready to choose a relationship. i stopped trying to predict whether my ex would come back, because waiting for that possibility kept me stuck in the same place.
when you say you have a gut feeling your story isn't over, does that come from things he said or did when you ended things, or is it more the feeling you still have for him
False hope.
He seems like he is avoiding a lot within himself. He needs to confront his fear of commitment by looking inward
