My ex and I recently exchanged a few warm messages after some time apart. I would like to have a calm conversation with her at some point, not to pressure her, but to share some things I have understood about myself since the breakup. How would you ask if she is open to a conversation without making her feel pressured? What wording would feel respectful from your perspective?

wanting one calm conversation with my ex so badly, just to share what i'd learned and feel like we understood each other a little better. i had to remind myself that even a warm exchange doesn't always mean they're ready for that conversation yet
I hear how much you care. If you reach out, you can keep it warm and respectful without any pressure: "It's been nice exchanging a few kind messages. If you're open to it, I'd appreciate a calm conversation sometime to share a few things I've understood about myself since we ended. No pressure at all. If now isn't right, I completely understand.
To set the tone, you can add: "I'm not here to convince you of anything. I'm here to understand. I'm prepared for any answer, including not wanting to talk. If we do speak, I'll listen as much as I share."
If she's open to talking, gentle, open questions can help her feel safe to share as much or as little as she wants: "How have you been feeling lately. When you think about everything that's happened, what feels most true for you right now. What have you learned about yourself in this season. Is there anything you wish I had understood better back then. What do you need more of from people in your life right now. If talking about us is okay, what parts feel resolved for you, and what still feels tender. Is there anything you'd like me to hear without me responding or defending."
Real invitations include every outcome. Be ready for yes, no, or not now. And if it happens, let it be a two-way conversation, not a pitch. That's how you honor her, and yourself.
let me know if she yes or no to the chat and how it goes. I believe in you.
I would ask for exactly what I want. "Hey I would like to have a brief conversation with you, if that's okay. Let me know when you are free." I know how hard this must be for you to ask her. your heart matters and you are important. I pray that things work out for you, whatever that looks like. You can do this.
