This past year has been hell. I had surgery, a major shoulder surgery and my ex of 8 years was taking care of me. 3 days after surgery we got into a fight about my medication and then she started yelling and cursing at me, I yelled and cursed back. She than ran up to me while I was sitting on the edge of the bed and punched me right in the face. Mind you I was already in pain and could barely walk because every time I moved my entire upper right side of my body was killing me even with meds. This happened and I didn’t do anything back except yell at her and tell her to leave. She cried and begged for forgiveness, and I accepted like an idiot. Shortly after she leaves the state. says she needs time and space because her her world got turned upside down because of her soon to be 18 year old daughter who abused her recently and is now facing legal issues. Am I stupid, 8 years, my now 13 year old son lost someone he called mom, I lost a daughter and someone I cared about so much that I let her hit me. The thing is she is a disabled stroke survivor. And no we are both young still, she is just a rare case. Anyway I just wanted to get that off my chest, the thing is during these past 8 years I have witnessed her get a heart implant, as well as have had blackouts and seizures. When I read what I write about how I have been here through it all for her, I feel so stupid. I feel lost. I thought she was the one until that happened, but people with brain injures have angry outbursts. Regardless what she did was not ok but I accepted it, then she leaves and disappears. I am not just in pain mentally but also physically still recovering from surgery. if anyone is out there reading this, just pray for me cause I really need it. thanks

i forgave something i should've taken much more seriously because i loved the person and remembered everything we'd survived together.
glad you got her to leave after that happened. when you look at everything you've carried for her over those eight years, do you think part of you is grieving the person she was to you as much as you're grieving the relationship itself?
i've been through a breakup where i kept thinking about everything i'd done for them and wondering how i could've been so blind. you aren't stupid for loving someone for eight years, and you didn't deserve to be hit, especially when you were recovering from surgery
