It’s been almost two months, and somehow, these past three days, the sadness found its way back to me.
I saw him in my dream, and for a moment, it felt like my heart had forgotten all the healing it had done. I woke up carrying that familiar ache again. Luckily, I deactivated my social media, gave myself some quiet, and surprisingly, it helped.
Deep down, I know there is no going back.
There were moments when he made me question my own reality, and I saw behaviors in him that I never want to experience again in a relationship. I may never fully understand why he treated me that way, but perhaps I don’t need to understand everything anymore. What happened was enough for me to know that he is not the man I want to build my life with.
The clarity is there, so clear that I can no longer unsee it.
And yet, clarity does not make grief disappear.
I’ve spent these months learning about toxic patterns, gaslighting, and narcissistic traits. More importantly, I’ve learned what I no longer want love to feel like. I don’t want a relationship that makes me doubt myself, shrink my needs, or constantly question whether asking for love is asking for too much.
Maybe this is what people mean when they say healing is not linear.
Some days, you finally feel free. You laugh again. You breathe without thinking of them. And then, without warning, a dream, a memory, or an ordinary moment opens an old wound, and suddenly you are crying for something you thought you had already made peace with.
But maybe crying again doesn’t mean I’m back at the beginning.
Maybe it simply means there is still a little grief passing through me.
And this time, I will let it pass without following it back to him.

i keep thinking about what you said about clarity being there but the grief still showing up. do you think you’re grieving him, or grieving the version of the relationship you kept hoping he would become?
Healing is not linear, you're so right. I'm going through something similar. I knew he isn't right for me. We've accepted this fact, yet we still question why they had the need to hurt us. Recently I started feeling really heavy again and it seems scary, but its part of the healing process. You had good days without him and you're surely gonna have more. It's so important that you recognise those feelings. We'll get through this
