My boyfriend and I have been together for two years and share a small studio. With our lease ending I suggested looking for a bigger place together. Instead he told me he didn’t think he could ever give me what I wanted — marriage and kids. Our relationship has always been happy and healthy. No toxicity no major fights. He’s one of the most caring and attentive people I’ve known which makes this even more confusing. About a year ago we almost broke up because he was unsure about our future but we worked through it and things had been good since.I’ll admit I’ve had some doubts of my own recently. I felt physically attracted to someone else (nothing happened beyond flirting) and it made me question how sure I was about us. I’ve also been afraid of waking up at 30 single after years with someone who was never fully committed. The day after that conversation I left on a planned trip. We texted a little while I was away and he said he missed me. When I got back he said he was sure he wanted to break up and started talking about logistics. That same night we slept together and he stayed. The next day he came home from work and acted completely normal — no mention of the breakup no packing. This continued for a couple of days.I finally told him that if he was certain about ending things and cared about me I wanted him to leave. The next morning he packed a backpack with a few things said “we’ll talk” and left. It’s now been a full week with zero contact. He’s staying at his mom’s but all of his belongings — including things he uses every day — are still in our apartment.I’m really confused. He’s always been loving and communicative so this silence feels completely out of character. I don’t know whether to reach out or give him space. He initiated the breakup but I was the one who asked him to leave.Part of me wants to accept that it’s over. Another part wonders if he’s just overwhelmed or unsure. I love him but I also don’t want to convince someone to choose me.Would you reach out or wait for him to contact you? Am I reading too much into him leaving all his stuff behind? Has anyone been through something similar in an otherwise good relationship?
