Why do i feel guilty after breaking up?

We only dated for four months but we had a lot of ups and downs and I believe I am trauma bonded. I ended the relationship and since he has tried to talk to me about considering working towards getting back together. I decided continuing communication was far too hard so I just straight up ignored him and haven’t responded since and I feel so guilty for that. the last message he sent says he loves me and he hopes we can try again in the future and I feel so guilty for not responding or even acknowledging it :(

i wasn't responsible for making my ex feel better after the breakup. i cared about him, but every conversation pulled me right back into the cycle i was trying to leave.

that’s exactly how I feel but I still do feel responsible for making him feel better and I don’t know how to shake that

i ended a relationship that was bad for me, then spent weeks feeling guilty every time he reached out because i knew he was hurting too. choosing yourself can still break your heart.

yes 100%… I feel like one day i’ll reach out to explain but I know I can’t do that anytime soon

do you feel guilty because you think you owe him a response, or because a part of you is still scared you're walking away from someone you love?

I know I love him but know we cannot be together because how bad the relationship was so I feel like I owe him a response

no I can’t, not now anyway. He was very controlling. everytime we talk it feels like he’s angry with me and then when we stop talking I withdraw basically
