Why am i feeling like crap after moving on?

Author

i didn’t reach out, I started talking to someone who I really started to like for three days I was blissfully happy and then it backfired like it normally does and now I’m sat here wondering if I was projecting my feelings for my ex onto someone else in desperate hope to not feel like without him my life is just horrible.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, but please be gentle with yourself. What you're feeling is completely normal—when we are hurting, it’s natural to crave a distraction or a spark of joy to escape the pain.

honestly, i stopped asking myself whether i was "using" someone to get over my ex and started asking if i was actually ready to let someone new in. that question gave me a much clearer answer than all the overthinking did.

did you like this new person for who they were, or did it mostly feel good because they made the silence after your breakup disappear for a while?

i did the exact same thing after my breakup, i got excited about someone new because it finally gave my brain a break from missing my ex. when it ended, all that old grief came rushing back at once.
