It’s been three months since the breakup, and I still struggle so much with letting go. I know deep down that the breakup was probably for the best and that I’m better off not being in that relationship anymore. But I still think about him every single day, and a part of me just doesn’t want to fully let him go yet.
I keep checking whether he has viewed my Instagram story, whether I’m still somehow present in his life, or looking at his reposts. I’ve tried so many things already. I’ve even slowly tried to get used to not checking for a day, and sometimes I manage, but eventually the urge comes back and I look again.
The hardest part is that I know it doesn’t actually make me feel better. I know I need to let go, but I don’t know how to stop myself from wanting to know what he’s doing or whether he’s still thinking about me.
How did you manage to stop checking up on your ex and actually let go? What genuinely helped you?

You need to remove their social media. If it's too soon to block then Just unfriended them. Every time you get the urge to check his socials do something else instead to distract yourself. Whilst you have this habit you won't be able to move you. You deserve better than this.
I dunno after grieving so much your body could've just needed like a rush of dopamine and familiarity. They say sometimes the best thing for a hangover is a lil alcohol. I don't see why this same mentality would be any different. I think you're being way too hard on yourself. Healing isnt linear. Let's also not forget how evil men can be. Sometimes they act like that just to not only keep you hooked, prove that he's doing better than you, make you miss him, or just pour salt in the wound out of pettiness. Have there been other instances of this behavior in the relationship? Hit me up if you feel this is becoming an addiction
The only thing that worked for me was to block. I wont lie it was hard, so so hard, the first few days were thr worst. not he has been blocked for over a month and havent seen him or spoke to him for 2.5 months and now he isnt the first thing I think of when I wake up. I slowly feel like im getting my life back and it feels amazing. you can do it it is worth it x
me was making the checking harder, muting and hiding his stuff so i couldn't casually fall into it. i still had urges, but eventually i stopped feeding them.
i used to check my ex's socials just to see if i still mattered to him, and every little thing i found somehow hurt worse than before.
If you don’t want to block them, archive the chat, restrict them, and turn off their notifications. That’s how I stopped myself from checking his profile. Realizing that every time I checked his profile, I felt like I was back at square one forced me to do this.
you check his stories or reposts, are you hoping to find proof that he misses you, or are you mostly trying to feel connected to him somehow?
